An intro to Irish music for ages 10+ and adults
The tradition of Irish music is rooted in community. Music is learned and shared by ear, not on paper, and it is enjoyed in casual spaces like pubs, cafes, festivals and homes. The Boulder Irish Workshop was founded to foster community amongst youth players and adults simultaneously in a welcoming setting. We believe that folk music is for everyone, and that preserving and sharing the stories within music is essential to community.
Calling all rising musicians ages 10+ who are curious to learn tunes from Ireland, that will make people dance! With your melody instrument - such violin/fiddle, cello, viola, flute, penny whistle, recorder, harp, accordion or keyboard- join us in learning a tune a week, by ear. No need for music stands or sheet music. No homework! Participants will be able to record the tune in class to refer back to afterwards.
Bring: Your instrument, your ability to play a 3-5 scales on it, and the desire to make a few new music friends!
